Time Was/Times Change - Nora Roberts

Book Notes and ReviewsTimes Change, Silhouette Intimate Moments (1990)

Time Was, Silhouette Intimate Moments (1989)

I borrowed these from the library as a compilation paperback becaue I am fond of Nora Roberts romances as quality candy books. The ones i can read on a plane, put down early if I need to go to sleep and don't need to think much about.

My pet peve would be somethign I suspect is the opposite of hers- she has a habit of making sure that everyone in her books says "make love with you" instead of "to you.' one of her books even has a small discussion about the terminology. since it's an odd phrasing, it always catches me and reminds me that I'm in a Nora Roberts book.

My problem with this book, and the reason I would not pay for it or reread it- is that I can't stand it when books imply that a good guy can force himself on a woman. In both stories, the man gets upset/frusterated/confused and ends up basically pushing the woman into something he knows she does not want. The author makes sure we know the woman does not say no- but he knows his timing is wrong or she would have said no if he'd asked and goes ahead anyway. After, he feels terrible and apologizes. These are the books I generally toss in the trash- I just don't feel a need to pass them on or keep reading them. Oddly, this seems very out of character for most of the Nora Roberts books I have read. I do know that there was a period when romances with rape scenes were encouraged from writes, maybe she was appeasing an editor or agent here without creating some of what we saw in the thick romances of the 80's.

The basic premise of these stories is actually kind of fun and overall, I liked the people involved- loved the girls family. The sotry is two sisters from current times visited by two borthers from the future. The first is an accident, the second comes to find his brother. Both couples end happily ever after of course and choose different paths to happiness which is nice.

The cheapest place for Nora Roberts books is book Closeouts where I buy my hardcovers for $5-10. The selection is limited and varies. Browse and Buy Nora Roberts books.
